
Description
The Cuandixia village is about 90 km(some sre mountain road) far from downtown of Beijing. it will take us about 2-2.5 hour to get there(depends on the traffic).
The village is very small, only 93 people live there. but most of the houses there are from the late Qing Dynast.(1644-1911 AD). It shows people what Chinese village look like one hundred years ago.
CuanDiXia is famous for it's sprcial layout, beautiful old fashion courtyard and decoration. The village is separated in to two different part by a 200 meters curling wall.
There are 3 highlights in this village courtyard, Screen Wall and Gate Tower.
courtyard is typical house for people in the northern part of China. usually it is in rectangular shape, including 2 to 4 or 5 courtyard enclosed by walls or houses at 4 sides, depends on how rich is the family.
Screen Wall is one piece of wall standing inside a gete to stop people from going into a house straight ahead, people can only turn left or right after they cross doorsteo. According to FengShui, Screen Wall can protect the house from evil spirit. it got similar function with doorstep.
Gate Tower is the last masterpieces in this village. Built at the southeast corner of the courtyard instead of the middle, measns it could fortune, to the family.
This is also a heroic village, in World War Two, Japan was invading China, the village had 500 peole at that time, about 100 of them joined the army and half of them sacrified themselves for China. After 1949, dozens of people from this village work for the government, which considered to be very honorable in China.
